Hargan Matthews Park

The City of Madison approached Recreation Unlimited Commercial in 2014 about renovating a local park. After several visits and learning about the history of their beautiful city, we were so excited to be a part of this project.

The park sits on the north side of the Ohio River and is in the heart of the city. Their initial vision was a ‘steam boat’ play structure, and has since evolved into so much more.

The project was to be geared towards children of all abilities, including those who use wheelchairs, so it was important to include full ADA ramp accessibility. Pour-in-place surfacing mixed with artificial turf brings the entire playground to life as the ‘boat’ actually sits in the blue surfacing and is floating down the river.
